Tisha B’Av, observed on the 9th (Tisha) of the Hebrew month of Av, is a day of mourning the destruction of both ancient Temples in Jerusalem and other catastrophes that the Jewish people have faced. In observance of Tisha B’Av, Temple Israel will host a special screening of the film BESA: The Promise -- the never-before-told, beautiful and true story told sixty years after WWII about a Muslim Albanian who must fulfill a promise made to the Jewish family his father rescued during the Holocaust. Also, we will chant from the Book of Lamentations as is customary on Tisha B’Av. To RSVP by July 31, please click on this link. Special thanks to the Hohenberg-Scheidt Fund for Lifetime Learning for making this program possible.
BESA: The Promise was underwritten by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Financial supporters include the Eye Contact Foundation, JWM Productions, the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, and the Righteous Persons Foundation.
