Family Shabbat Service and Dinner, Friday, February 10, 2012
Family Shabbat is an opportunity for families to celebrate Shabbat together at Temple in a casual and warm setting. Come at 5:45 pm to participate in a craft, followed by an age-appropriate Shabbat service at 6:15 pm, and a family style dinner. This experience is created with elementary school children in grades K-5 in mind, but all are welcome. Please note that Family Shabbats are held on the same nights as Ruach Shabbat services, so that, after dinner, families can experience, even if it’s for a few minutes, Ruach’s unique spirit and dynamic music. Dinner is complimentary for members of Temple Israel, if they RSVP by Feb. 8. After that deadline, members pay the non-member fee of $8/adult and $4/child. Make dinner reservations online. Please direct your inquiries to Sophie Samuels.

Tot Shabbat Service and Dinner, Friday, March 2, 2012; 6:15pmTot Shabbat provides families a chance to celebrate this weekly time of renewal and joy together. The experience includes stories, dance, music and art projects followed by a family style dinner. Tot Shabbat is geared for families with children up to age five; however, others are welcome, including members and non-members, Jewish and non-Jewish partners alike. Dinner is complimentary for members of Temple, if reservations are received by Feb. 29. Dinner is $8/adult; $4/child for non-members and for reservations received after Feb. 29. Questions? MeFTY
MeFTY (Memphis Federation of Temple Israel's Youth) is Temple Israel's youth group for high schoolers.  It is a part of NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth) in the NFTY-Southern region, which includes youth groups from Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and northern Florida.

MeFTY's email address is MeFTY@timemphis.org.

The main focus of MeFTY is participation in social action projects that lead to charitable giving opportunities while bringing its members together. MeFTY belongs to its members, existing for their enjoyment, spiritual nourishment, involvement with one another, and involvement within the Jewish communities of Memphis and the world.

MeFTY is involved in a number of activities and events.  Be sure to check out MeFTY's photo album!

Purim carnival is a popular MeFTY "labor of love" that brings smiles to children while raising money for charity.

Apple CakesThe annual Rosh Hashanah apple cakes sale is another traditional favorite!

Community service projects that benefit non-profit agencies such as Hope House, Memphis Family Shelter, and Sophia's House provide opportunities to help those in need.

Social events like HAM (Havdalah and a Movie) and Shabbat programs (like the interfaith gathering in April of 2008, pictured here) are MeFTY mainstays that bring Temple teens together.

NFTY regional events and conclaves are a hit too!  These conclaves, which are "conventions" for Jewish teens, include special programs, services, and activities.

College-bound MeFTY members:  Check out Hillel's Guide to Jewish Life on Campus.

MeFTY elects its leaders, and its officers serve a one-year term. Congratulations to the MeFTY officers for 2011-2012: Paige Mandelman, President; Jeremy Braslow, Programming VP; Caroline Gillenson, Social Action VP; Emily Wolfe, Religious and Cultural VP; Aimee Adler, Membership VP; Lainey Felsenthal, Treasurer; Becca Ashner, Secretary.
