Welcome to Temple Israel!
Temple Israel — located in Memphis Tennessee — is a sanctuary for prayer and inspiration, a vibrant center for Jewish learning, and a congregational home for living Torah. We are a source of strength and a force for good for Reform Jews, the greater community, and the world.
Memphis' Home for Reform Judaism
Since it was founded in 1854 by a small group of German immigrants as the first permanent Jewish house of worship in Tennessee, Temple Israel has grown into a vibrant and modern Reform Jewish synagogue that now serves 1,500 member families as a place to gather, worship, learn, and deepen Jewish identity and commitment.

Silenced Jewish Women of Genesis and Today
Wednesday, Mar 11th 7:00p to 8:15pThe voices of Jewish women — both heard and unheard — have been necessary in writing our Jewish story. This class, led by Rabbi Leah Sternberg, examines the stories of women in the Torah, rabbinic literature, Jewish History, and our contemporary age, whose contributions have been overlooked, suppressed, or misinterpreted. By spending time with these narratives, we will reclaim these voices and consider their relevance to Jewish life and gender dynamics today.
