What makes the Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning Center the top choice for families in Memphis?
At the Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning Center (BKL ELC), we believe every child is a person of unique worth. Our nurturing environment values each child’s curiosity, creativity, and capacity to learn through play. Rooted in strong Jewish values, our curriculum weaves Jewish traditions and teachings into daily life, enhanced by meaningful connections with Temple Israel’s clergy. Read More.
Our mission
Our mission is to provide for the social, emotional, and cognitive growth of the young child in a safe Jewish setting.
We offer
With a low student-to-teacher ratio, each child receives personalized attention in an environment where they feel supported and nurtured. We offer a stimulating space where learning is joyful and growth is celebrated. Our lead teachers closely monitor each child’s development, thoughtfully scaffolding and tailoring lessons so every child can thrive at their own pace and reach their fullest potential.
We invite you
Whether your family is new to Temple Israel or has been part of our community for generations, we invite you to discover what makes the BKL ELC a truly special place to begin your child’s lifelong learning journey. Please contact Blair Trotz at blairt@timemphis.org for a tour so we can show you all the wonderful things our program has to offer.

Our youngest learners are growing through new experiences every day at the Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning Center.
This year they have learned to bake challah with Judy Bearman, participated in a St. Jude Trike-a-thon, had graduation ceremonies, a parade at Purim and participated in a model Seder. Together we have created lifelong memories and nurtured a love for learning that will last a lifetime. We can't wait to see what's in store for our ELC's 36th year!
