Lifelong learning is at the heart of Temple Israel. Temple Israel University (TIU) is our hub for adult education, offering opportunities to study, explore, and grow at every stage of life. Engaging in learning is a mitzvah, and through TIU we strive to deepen your Jewish journey throughout adulthood. No prior experience is required. Classes are led by our knowledgeable clergy and special guest speakers, covering a wide range of topics from Israeli politics to Jewish thought, spirituality, and forgiveness.

A Taste of Judaism
A Taste of Judaism will be a 4-week brief introduction to Judaism based on the Union for Reform Judaism's (URJ) “A Taste of Judaism” curriculum. Taught by our clergy team, A Taste of Judaism will offer a broad overview of Jewish tradition with a focus on Reform Judaism. Classes will be streamed and recorded, but there will be no Zoom participation.
This class is a prerequisite to Embracing Judaism, a course for those entering the conversion process. Students interested in pursuing conversion must attend 100% of the classes. There is no book required for the course.
Embracing Judaism – Becoming a Jew
This marvelous experiential course for future Jews-by-Choice is by invitation only, following each conversion candidate’s rabbinic sponsorship with Temple Israel clergy. Taught by Judy Bearman and Sally Rosenberg, this class begins anew following each Exploring Judaism cycle.

Coffee and Conversation
Engage. Connect. Learn.
Join Rabbi Levy, Rabbi Sternberg, and special guests for an hour of learning and conversation in community on the first and third Thursday of each month in the Meeting Room. Every discussion dives into a different Jewish topic from the most spiritual to cultural aspects of our faith and peoplehood. Bagels, coffee, and great conversation included.
Scholar in Residence
Twice a year, Temple Israel welcomes leading scholars of Judaica to share their wisdom and insight with our congregation. Over the years, these weekends have brought learning to life through topics as varied as Jewish law and practice, history and culture, sociology, music, and the Jewish future.
Each Scholar in Residence weekend is designed to nourish both mind and spirit. The experience begins with a Friday evening lecture following a community Shabbat dinner, continues with a Saturday morning sermon and presentation, and concludes with a Sunday morning program. Often, an informal Saturday evening gathering is also included, offering even more opportunity for connection and conversation.
Adult Education Series
Deepen Your Understanding. Enrich Your Jewish Journey.
Join us one Wednesday evening each month for our Adult Education Series, an opportunity to engage in deeper learning around a variety of Jewish topics. Led by one of our rabbis, each stand alone session offers thoughtful teaching and meaningful exploration of subjects ranging from Jewish texts and theology to history, ethics, and contemporary issues. Whether you’re looking to expand your knowledge, ask big questions, or simply connect through learning, these classes are designated to inspire lifelong Jewish growth in a welcoming and intellectually engaging environment.
